Even then, I kind of feel like you're overreacting, or at least you come off that way, and I definitely think that you didn't convey the point you were making and the element of the post you were objecting to in a clear way.

I mean, I get where you're coming from - it does come off in a slightly Suicidal Tendencies, "All I wanted was a Pepsi" way (ref: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoF_a0-7xVQ) - but that wasn't what I got from your point initially.

I do think it's kind of telling that people care more about my comment than commiserating with the OP.

What is telling about it? That people are fed up with your usual crap?

Chardmonster's problem is her presentation. The points that she makes are usually valid, and when the same points are made in different ways, people agree with them (often enthusiastically).

She trolls the shit out of people and gets upset when they judge her for being an ass and stirring shit.

Presentation is important, if it wasn't politicians would be out of a job.

See, I don't see her getting upset; I see her explaining.

If someone makes a good point and the only thing that dooms it is its presentation, then I wouldn't call it trolling; I'd call it either lacking tact or choosing comedy over sincerity. Trolls don't actually have good points.

I guess my point is that she's trolled to the point where it's difficult to tell when she's just being comedic (especially if she misses the mark), when she's being serious, and when she's just stirring shit.

It's overlapped to the point where sometimes it just doesn't matter whether she's trolling or not, because it has a tendency to draw the same reaction as when she is.

Anyway, I don't want to dig her at more than this, but basically it was a douchey and provocative way to criticize OP for what was just frustrated venting, which drew douchey and provocative responses. So, yeah.

Except a lot of the time she doesn't really seem to have a point either? I've certainly been pleasantly surprised a few times, but these days when I see a chardcomment I tend to expect a ridiculous overreaction, trolling or outright ??????????wtf??????.

Even if she did have a point, which she doesn't this time, no-one is going to pay attention to a point that is hidden behind a bad attitude. Kinda like how Chard jumped straight to capslock instead of addressing the OP's issue.

But she does have a point this time, which is that people shouldn't be ungrateful assholes to their parents. By the way, she also responds rather nicely to the OP downthread.

As to the second part of your point, people will pay attention to a point that's hidden behind a bad attitude, as long as that point plays into whatever people feel is acceptable at the given moment. Part of the reason people react the way they do to chardmonster is because she's chardmonster, and not because anything she says is particularly heinous.

Except she did not make a point in any way that related to the OP. Her point is on the same level of my point that the sky is blue. Because she was accusing the OP of something that's not happening.

People react the way they do because she does say heinous things quite a lot and it's now at the point where we don't know if she's trolling, being an ass, trying to joke or being serious. Not because she's chardmonster, but because she keeps being a douchebag and the above comment was her being a douchebag without a valid point hidden in there.

How does "you come across as really hateful toward your mother" not relate to a post where someone is complaining about their mother?

Yeah I know and I'm sorry about that. For what it's worth I just want to say that you seem cool and I mostly like you as a poster, it's just what you said seemed to be coming across as this kind of knee-jerk "Your feelings are invalid and illegitimate and stop having them because you're not allowed to have them" thing that tends to annoy me because I feel like I get that a lot. Whereas, frankly, I don't really care about the vicissitudes of tech support because it's not something that I experience.

Oh heck no, and no worries. You didn't owe me any sort of apology. Just know that if I actually want to bother someone, I don't do it in caps. Capslock is something I usually do to make it clear that what I'm saying isn't entirely serious, but people just seem to read it as terribly serious shouting. I need to get used to that. Often I go back and edit but I can't once someone has responded.

I think it's pretty weak that you pretend that whenever people take exception to the way you say things, it's because they took it ~super seriously, but you were actually joking!!! And that's coming from someone who regularly agrees with your basic points, while being incredibly irritated by the way you present them.

She is though. I've sat next to her doing this. And she's said out loud "people are taking this seriously?" or something to that effect.

Of course, I'm usually surprised along with her (or laughing) so don't expect me to help fix this.

You could try no caps and no punctuation, next time. Since most people here write using proper punctuation it would stand out as more informal.
