Jesus Christ that looks good. That's pretty much exactly what I would go for, if I hadn't picked up the idea somewhere along the line that baking from a box-mix is "cheating." (Tempted to pick some up anyway.)

It's totally not cheating when you improve upon the mix. In the case of my family's long-passed-down recipe, we improve upon the mix in question with a layer of maraschino cherries, overall icing made from real cream and icing sugar, and the cake layers themselves soaked overnight in rum. Lots of rum. Lots and LOTS and LOTS of rum.

It's a really good recipe. XD
