Just like Morgaine is considered a bad guy in the Arthurian myth and therefore is pretty rare/non-existent as a first name, whereas Vivian/Vivien/Viviane is not all that rare (I know three of them).

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)Modern thinking would definitely qualify this judgement a little, but she is an enchantress who transforms all those sailors into pigs and then uses all these transformed humans as slaves.
The fact that Odysseus seduces her - partly in order to be spared a similar fate- and eventually runs away from her island does not exactly redeem her character, as one can be in love without being a good person.
