How do you deal with passive-agressive attention whores in your fandom?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-19 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
There's this girl in my fandom that seems to me like a giant attention whore.

Every post of hers either a)talks about some tragic thing that's happening to her b)how depressed she is people don't pay her attention c)how she wants for people to read her fic. (I was considering reading her fic, but after she's been pestering so much about it, now I don't want to even look at it...)

And when you talk to her, she's a specialist in saying little things here and there to attack you subtely (like how she hates your particular ship interpretation, your tastes, your headcanons). I follow her because she posts a lot of good fanart, but I have Tumblr Saviored her personal posts. Still, I don't understand why she's following me, if she hates my opinions so much, and sometimes she'd reblog posts of mine and add their comments (again, how it is so wrong of people who like things I like -she has never mentioned me, but it is obvious she's referring to me-) . I plain asked her once why she follows me and she didn't even answer.

It's getting to the point where I want to unfollow her, but knowing her, she's capable of making a big drama out of it.

Have some of you have lived this situation before?

I haven't known people like that in fandom, but I have had the pleasure of knowing them IRL.

Honestly, I just stopped talking to them. Don't have the energy or time to deal with their bullshit.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. It's tiring enough to stand their shit online, I just can't imagine dealing with that on real like. :O

Ignore or defriend 'em.

find where she reblogs that fanart from, follow those persons instead, and then de-follow her and block her

the only surefire way to deal with people like her is to not deal with them at all

don't talk about them, don't talk to them

don't comment about things they say and do, even without naming names or saying "X thing that people do"

it's like in fantasy books: your belief in them gives them power

I'd say find where she's finding the art, follow them then un-follow her. If she wants to start shit, let her. If people come to you to cause drama just say that you weren't enjoying her posts anymore and, seeing as you two aren't actually friends, you didn't see any reason to keep following her.

After that, I'd just ignore her and anyone who tries to start shit over it.

Unfollow her. If she creates drama, ignore it. She wants the attention, but you don't have to give it to her and you don't have to stoop to her level of passive-aggression.

Ignore, unfollow and if she makes a drama out of it ignore it unless it goes on for a week+, then make a polite PSA on tumblr apologising for the drama, you've know idea why she took an unfollow so seriously

This way s/he will look the asshole they are, the other alternative is they won't make drama out of your unfollow which is win/win for you

PS, missed that's she's following you too. Block her. You'll still see her fanart around so no loss.
