I am so late that you probably will not see this, but with someone who has 4 parents*, 2 grandparents and random other relatives who keep calling me for tech support. Especially when it comes to the "easy" stuff, what I do is writing step by step guides on post it notes and leaving them by their computers.

And I mean detailed step by step notes:
TO START THE INTERNET:
1. Start the computer
2. Write password: 12345
3. Press Enter (or left click the enter button)
4. Double click the icon that says INTERNET!

TO GO TO FACEBOOK:
1. Look at the top of the window
2. Click on the button that says: FACEBOOK
3. Wait for it to open.

OPEN MESSAGES IN FACEBOOK:
1. Look at the left side on the top
2. Click the button that looks like an envelope
3. Press the "read more" button
4. The ones with darker blue are new messages

You get the point? I dunno if you have tried that, but if you write it detailed and leave it close by they have no excuse to not know that.
