As a translator, this is what rankles me so much about the whole "well they haven't used gendered forms of address for Hanji!" argument. In Japanese, that isn't an unusual thing at all. Yes, in English it would be very strange to have an entire conversation without saying "he" or "she" at least once, but in Japanese it isn't given how contextual the language is.

That argument literally means nothing.
