IDK, it's kind of like Boy Meets World in a way? Like it was good, has its followers, but it's not really something that people tend to actively stan or promote, especially years after its cancellation. Sure, someone brings up Mr Feeney or the banana stand and the people who did watch it will whip out their nostalgia goggles, but it's not the same as something like Firefly (not to mention the whole sitcom vs scifi/fantasy fandom attitudes in general).

It really does take a revival of the series (i.e. the new Netflix season, Girl Meets World, etc), to make people crawl out of the woodwork and really talk about it again, so... yeah.

Short story = don't be pissed at your friends. Unlike other shows, old sitcoms don't tend to be brought up outside of directly relevant conversations.

lol, I'm really quiet about the fact that I watch it around most people - I only told my mom so she could understand my quotations/references and commented to one friend who's a magician that he reminds me of Gob, but that's really it.

So...I guess...quiet fans exist? /cool story bro

I almost never talk with people about things I'm a fan of, including that show, which...I suppose is a little odd.

Maybe, but sometimes it's understandable. I used to spend a lot of time with someone who never failed to disparage the things that I liked--so I stopped talking to him about things I enjoyed, because I felt protective of them.

[Picture is the logotype of the TV show "Arrested Development".]

I just recently began watching this, and I am hooked. I told my friends how much I love it, and they all agree it's awesome.

That's not the secret. The secret is that I'm genuinely pissed off with my friends for being huge fans for years yet never mentioning it to me.

This is a secret because it's so neurotic that it seems like something that might actually appear in the show itself.

That's a stupid to be "genuinely pissed off" about, OP.

Maybe your friends thought you wouldn't like it or that it wasn't up your alley.

Although this all depends: do your friends often recommend things to watch to you? do you talk about fandom and media often? are they usually nice people?

There could be many innocent explanations.
