I think it's kawaii when people waste so much time worrying about what other people are calling flowers. Somebody wants to sprinkle some gratuitous Japanese in their speech. Big deal.

Back in my day there was some RL wank about how to pronounce manga. Apparently, Americans pronounce it differently from the Japanese. OMG, what a revelation, people from different countries (one of which has a pretty wide range of accents) pronounce words differently. Shocking.

This pissed off some girl enough that she started screaming in the middle of a fucking Barnes and Nobles.

And yet I'll bet she doesn't give a shit when Japanese people butcher the phrase "CD player."

Probably not. This was the first time I ever met this girl, and the last. She was the friend of a friend. After that nonsense I wouldn't hang out with him if she was going to be there.

I also remember an internet backlash against fanfic writers using random Japanese words in fic. Is that still going on?
