Comics!

What comics do you read regularly? Be it the hold in your hand, get them at a shop comics, webcomics or even newspaper strips.

Just finished Faith Erin Hicks/Prudence Shen's Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong as well as the first collected Hawkeye graphic novel. (I love the art in Hawkeye.) And I am completely digging with what they are doing with the current Wonder Woman line since I still miss Xena even after all of these years.

How about you?

Strays online. Lovely art, and unique characters.

I used to read one called Angels 2200, but the creator stopped updating due to RL problems.

There are a few I'm eyeballing, but right now the only one I'm following is Fearless Defenders.

Print comics I'm reading... 20ish? But the ones that I most look forward to are Morning Glories, Mind the Gap, Saga, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, and Revival.

As for webcomics, Gunnerkrigg Court, Girls with Slingshots, Little Guardians, Oglaf, and Oh Joy, Sex Toy.

At current, in my year+ long project to read through the Modern Age DC continuity, I am reading multiple comics. Like probably too many. Like "setting up a spreadsheet to keep track" too many. At the moment in I'm in 2007 publication dates, and some of these will end soon.

Detective Comics, Batman, Catwoman, Nightwing, Robin, Birds of Prey, Superman, Action Comics, Blue Beetle, Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Outsiders, Teen Titans (gonna drop it soon), Justice League of America, Booster Gold, Justice Society of America.

I also follow Invincible.

Some of the webcomics I read are Gunnerkrigg Court, Questionable Content for some reason, Penny Arcade, Sam and Fuzzy, and Shortpacked/Dumbing of Age.

The only newspaper strip I go out of my way to read is Dilbert.

Hawkeye is my current one. I also have started the new X-Men and I really love it.

I have a Marvel Unlimited online account and I read through stuff there online. Mostly X-Men and Avengers type stuff.

I also love Fables and Madame Xanadu.

Hack/Slash just wrapped up

Empowered and PS238 when they come out (the juxtaposition of them as my favorite continuing comics strikes me as funny)

Probably dropping the Green Lantern titles now. None of the new creative teams grabbed me.

Also Bravest Warriors

Looking forward to IDW's upcoming Cartoon Network lines too.

I've read a few comic series in the past, like Batman, Sandman, some Young Justice, the Blackest Night event, but I don't read comic books very often.

On the other hand, I read a ton of webcomics. Many Guys Doing Manly Things, Fanboys, Questionable Content, Girls With Slingshots, Earthsong, Order of the Stick, Gunnerkrigg Court, Ava's Demon, the Zombie Hunters, Lackadaisy, The Quick and Dirty Life of Fritz Fargo, Toilet Genie/Story of the Door, Wasted Talent, Something Positive, Shortpacked!, Dumbing of Age, Johnny Wander, Flaky Pastry, Monster Pulse, Cucumber Quest, Oh Joy Sex Toy, Oglaf, JL8, Brawl in the Family, and Girls Next Door.

I only read newspaper strips when I'm visiting my parents, and they're all... pretty terrible.

Given your taste in webcomics... have you tried Unsounded?

I've never heard of it, I'll take a look. Thanks for the recommendation.

+1 for Unsounded! Especially after recent events...

You read almost all the ones I follow regularly plus a lot, so you might like Namesake, too? And wow, I haven't checked Earthsong in... years. Thanks for the reminder.

I was reading some DC comics (Batman, Robin, Nightwing, etc etc) but right now it's just Hawkeye, Stormwatch (don't ask, idk), Young Avengers and Star Trek ongoing.

lately, astonishing x-men. they're doing an iceman centric arc that's acknowledging the severe emotional problems Bobby has and I want to see how it turns out

Only Webcomics, these days: Homestuck, O Human Star, Led By A Mad Man, Minor Acts of Heroism, Warrior U, Olympus Overdrive, Take Off!, Transfusions, and I just finished Digger by Ursula Vernon, which is also available in print as well as free online

Re: Comics!

DA--despite the fact that I own all six of the trades, I am so shelling out for the omnibus edition of Digger. I just can't decide if I want to dump more money in the kickstarter and get the hardcover.

Re: Comics!

(Anonymous) 2013-06-20 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
If money's no object to you, or a very specific object that won't leave you have starved or behind on important bills if you chuck it around now and then, I would be a horrible enabler and recommend going for the hardcover.

Paperback is nice and additional flexibility can be a plus with something as huge as this, but hardcover is just so... official and kind of fancy. It's always just a really nice thing to have. Along with that, my god Digger is just such a wonderful and profoundly imaginative story, I can't help feeling that both it and Ursula also deserve every bit of extra endorsement they get.

I just wish I had more to spend on it. Though if you really don't have it to spend or don't feel strongly about hardcover editions, then I'd let it go. That's already a lot of money and the thing is gonna be a giant tome of stupendous awesome, either way.

So there's my unsolicited thoughts on the matter.

The only comics I read regularly are webcomics.

Two that I really adore that I wish were better known are Cucumber Quest and Nimona. Seriously, I highly recommend both of those to everyone ever, they're both excellent.

The other webcomics I read regularly right now are MSPA, Dinosaur Comics, Questionable Content (though I've been considering dropping it), Gunnerkrigg Court, Girl Genius, DMFA, El Goonish Shive, Ava's Demon, and Rain.

I read approx. 30 webcomics. About as many syndicated comics. At least as many comic books. More than a handful of manga (although some time back I decided to stop reading manga that's still ongoing for fear of it being dropped unfinished, with a bunch of scanlators getting out of the hobby and a couple professional translation companies going out of business).

So...listing them all would be a bit of a chore. v_v

Young Avengers, Thor, Avengers, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, Batman.

Granted this is me buying them in my annual comic book splurge that I do so I don't pick them up in issue order but by how interesting I find a particular story arc.

As for Webcomics: LFG, Awkward Zombie, Dark Legacy, OTTS and Fanboys.

I have a number of webcomics bookmarked (pretty much all have been mentioned at least onece, except for hark! A Vagrant) but don't always make all the rounds. Oglaf is the only webcomic I see regularly, since I have a DW feed set up for it.

The only title I've been buying faithfully is Demon Knights (I also bought the Madame Xanadu TPBs). Sadly, this has only two more issues to go. I've considered getting into either Saga or Fable.

The only two manga I buy ( or would if it was licensed / in print) are Oooku and Crimson Spell. I pick up volumes of Berserk and Cromartie H.S. when I find them used, but this is mostly just to complete the series.

Slightly Damned
Awkward Zombie
Order of the Stick
Cucumber Quest
..Does Tales of Replica count? I guess it does? It sort of died though? And it was mostly just a retelling of the plot.

The only comic I still actually pay for *ahem* is Empowered. although I'd hardly say it's regular, given how warren is taking his own sweet time with the next one.

Gunnerkrigg Court and Widdershins are the only two I follow, really, although Widdershins is relatively new and is on temp hiatus.
