It does that too! Japanese has borrowed plenty of words from English, and so has French. That probably doesn't get looked at quite as often unless you're into languages though, and the term actually is word-borrowing so more focus gets put onto the language that gets the words.

(English also more often suffers from people who want to make it follow the language rules of different languages, most frequently Latin but arising whenever someone tries to make a plural out of a word ending that didn't come with one.)

I've never understood this point of view. I mean, sure - it didn't originate in English, but forcing people to learn grammar rules from a different language for specific words is just...silly. And would end up being a huge confusing mess - and I say that as someone who uses multiple languages to make a living.

I don't either. I know it has roots in the historical, back when Latin snobbery was all the rage, but it seems plain silly when English has its own method of pluralization. When you throw ancient languages like Latin and Greek into the mix it gets even sillier, between the occasional endings English gets confused over and people wanting to decline third declension nouns and ugh.

Most languages already are a huge confusing mess when you get down to it, but English, due to aforementioned ancient language snobbery, is one of the worst for it. Linguistics is basic one big merry investigation into how fucked up languages are.
