I hate when he's given a first name in fic. I really don't see what's wrong with Sheriff Stilinski, Stiles' dad, the sheriff, etc.

For me anyway, the repetitive use of Sheriff Stilinski, Stiles' dad, and the sheriff get annoying, tbh. I'd rather he have a fanon name (even if I don't like it) because it flows better.

Yeah, same. Everything else just gets redundant and annoying.

I've seen a few that handle it really well. It's all in the skill of the author, but it can totally be done and not seem repetitive.

There's some that refer to him as 'Dad' like that's his name, and that works out okay.

I guess it depends on what you read. If he's just mentioned once or twice, then yeah, that works. If he's a character in the fic, that gets old quick.

If it's told from his POV or if it's a love interest not using his first name, then I can see where it would get a little weird, but in all other cases I PREFER this. Because "Sheriff" and "Dad" are what the other characters call him and for them to call him anything else would be OOC.

And I find John rather boring and would be disappointed with the show for going with it, so I hope they don't. Actually I hope they never reveal his or Stiles' first names.
