I kind of wanted to write a story about all my little zookeepers and janitors taking care of the zoo and complaining about the stupid visitors...but I know that I'm the only person who would be interested in that so it lives in my head, lolol.

Write it! Not as fanfic just as a novel about zookeepers. There are too many books about cops, detectives, lawyers, knitting sleuths etc. I would totally read a book about zookeepers.

I scanned the staff chart and sighed. Shit. I was still assigned to Polar Bear Palooza, Penguin Place, Savannah Sights, Rhino Rampage, and Lion Lookout. It would take me most of the day to clean Savannah Sights and Polar Bear Palooza was clear across Spend Your Money Here Zoo from there. It would take a good hour to walk there. They shot down my idea of using golf carts to get around the zoo. "Its not in the budget," they tell me. Fuck that, they can afford all those damn fancy fountains and flowerbeds.

I felt like I had been working non-stop for months. I need to find a new job, but no one quits here. They just vanish mysteriously.

I stretched, felt something pop, and grabbed my coffee mug for a refill at a nearby kiosk. The staff coffee was crap. One of my brothers at the Coffee Grind filled my cup when no one was looking, saving me ten bucks a cup. I stepped out of the staff area to complete chaos.

Zoo patrons were running and screaming, flailing their arms as they went. John Jacob Jingleheimmerschmidt, the zookeeper for Horses with Stripes (lucky bastard with only one assigned exhibit), ran by.

I called his name and he slowed down. "What happened?"

"Fence in Penguin Place broke, Captain Jack. Waddles got loose and is attacking Mr. Happy."

"Again?" Mr. Happy was a regular guest at the zoo, or at least I think he was. You'd think only one zoo guest would have a brown afro/beard combo and wear a tie-dye t-shirt, but nooooooo... it seems like every other guy has the same fashion sense. I'd been here so long everyone was starting to look the same.

"Yeah, What is it? The fifth time this month he's been attacked?"

I paused to think. "No, seventh. Simba the Lion attacked him an hour ago."

"You think the idiot would learn to run like the others by now. What happened to the Maintenance Man anyway?"

"Last time I saw Jan Itor, he was sweeping up trash by Zebra Burger. I don't know why they don't hire anymore maintenance staff."

"It's not in the budget, Captain. You better get over there."

Penguin Place was on the other side of the zoo. "Poor Bastard's probably already dead anyway if Waddles got to him."

"Yeah, you're probably right. What were they thinking anyway? Bringing in a Killer Penguin..."
