No, I am not Japanese.
I meant "ore" is especially not appropriate for women to use, but I know a female punk who is very tomboyish & a bit "crazy" and uses "ore" and I've heard from a male friend that he heard other females using it too and he dislikes it very much because it sounds dirty for a woman to speak like that.

If you use "ore" you want to sound "cool" and "very male" and it is rude anyway. To me personally "ore" sounds arrogant and if a guy uses "ore" when talking to me despite having just met each other I can kind of figure what kind of person he might be. Of course, you can find male characters saying "ore" in anime or mangas most of the time but it doesn't mean you should talk like them. I also don't use "atashi" because it sounds childish/girly to me and I prefer to use "watashi".
My husband, friends and my male co-workers never use "ore" (also in private) and they are all decent and very nice men I enjoy spending time with.

whooooooo caaaaaaaaaaaaares about your judgment of women (and men) who use words that aren't feminine enough to please you, in a language you don't natively speak, WHO LIVE IN A COUNTRY YOU ARE A FOREIGNER IN.

You obviously did care enough because you read it and commented on it♥

Well, I agree that it sounds strange if a woman uses ore or even boku. In my experience it's extremely rare except in fictional or artistic cases, besides the occasional rough teenage tomboy. Strictly gendered society and all, I guess. But these things are also very regional - and I think most of the time people just say as their group says. As I said, in Tokyo most guys use ore, even kids. It doesn't have any rough or bad meaning. Sure, boku sounds a bit more refined but meh, a guy saying ore here is not indicative of their personality.

That's the point, I guess. If your male friends use it, you might start to use it too.
It all depends on your personal liking too I guess. I also remember a friend from 九州 who moved to Tokyo. She met a foreigner who used "ore" all the time and she told him "boku" would be better when talking to her.

I have to say I doubt it's a fact. Tokyo is a laaaaaarge city and I live near it ;D I don't think you know everybody.

a guy saying ore here is not indicative of their personality.
Hmmm....are you Japanese btw? Japanese language for me is full of "indications". In Manga, you can see when someone's angry when they suddenly switch from polite language to rude language. Japanese people use polite Japanese to create a sudden distance to someone. Japanese judge other Japanese when they don't use correct Keigo, as well. You said yourself that boku sounds tomboyish, so why shouldn't ore sound arrogant?

Man, this stuff sounds so strict and confusing. I'm glad my native language is "primitive" compared to Japanese.
