i didn't say it was better, i said it was more polite, and realistically that's the way that most people seem to approach the situation, and certainly the way which society would regard as the lesser fault than just telling them to fuck off. even if it doesn't make sense, it's more polite. because society is kind of dumb about things sometimes.

da

Gotta agree with Noodles here my carpool driver for over two years did this to me just because I had no patience for the woman wagging her tongue so bad (and telling the most outrageous of whoppers at the same time) I seriously thought it was going to drop out of her mouth.

Anyway, after the first week of carpooling me, she realized I wasn't going to be any kind of a source for gossip for her, and I called her out/corrected her every time she opened her mouth to lie blatantly. Also note there is no public transit where I live, so I was literally between a rock and a hard place (I don't drive)

This vile excuse for a human being not only kept putting her "taxi fare" up (and up and up and up), she started NOT SHOWING UP. So not only was I getting docked at work, she expected me to pay HER more when it was her fault I was getting less money in the first place. Not to mention the multiple times she LEFT ME AT WORK and refused to pick up the phone to me when I called her (this after she reassured me by phone AND email that day she was going to pick me up). There's a couch in the kitchen, but still. Her passive-aggressive idiocy made my life a living hell for three years. (She now badmouths ME behind my back -- or so she thinks -- to make the worst of it.)

Don't be passive-aggressive, OP; a clean break is best all around.

I've suffered through through to much passive aggressiveness in my life. So, I don't think I'll employ it.

How is wasting their time and yours by being as painfully awkward as possible more polite than telling them straight?

It's not. Don't try to blame societal norms for being a weasel.

Okay, my point is not coming across here. I apologize for that.

My point - well, I wasn't really making a point, I think I was trying to combine making a joke and having a point, and that might have tripped me up - but what I was trying to get across was that it's kind of weird and ironic that doing something shitty and passive aggressive is what society considers more polite. That's strange and dumb. I guess I kind of thought that it was obvious that it was strange and dumb, and that I wasn't actually advocating that point of action by saying it's more polite, but it wasn't obvious. I should have been clearer about my non-seriousness.
