Well, the writing virtually ignored what Tolkien, though Gandalf and Aragorn, very specifically states is the *real* issue that drove her to despair, not her love for an idealised Aragorn, and made her character basically all unrequited love and "I wanna fight!"

I will give Miranda Otto kudos for a) criticising some elements, such as the cringe-worthy stew scene in the TTT EE and b) actually getting into the sword fighting, in light of the reports that Liv Tyler would stop five minutes into training, complaining that her hand hurt.

Well, I'd give Liv props for ixnaying that idea they had of Arwen fighting at Helm's Deep. Maybe she just didn't want to do even more swordsfighting practice, but somehow I can't imagine that going over too well.
