I try to be polite (ACTUALLY polite, not this anon's fucked-up passive-aggressive "polite") but distant. I've been in this situation with people I still have to see from time to time because of a mutual friend; what works for me is being cordial when we see each other, engaging in small talk when necessary, but leaving it at that. If they want to make plans, I'm busy. Eventually they get the hint and stop wanting to make plans.

This might be the "polite passive-aggressiveness" that previous anon was thinking of, but notice that I'm not wasting anybody's time by agreeing to plans I don't want, or hurting anyone's feelings by deliberately being a dick during plans that I agreed to in the first place.
