I wish I had started saving fics sooner. Some of my old favorites are gone without a trace now.

That said, sounds like you might be suffering from CSP/OCD -- if it's a problem for you, try to look into a remedy so you can stay healthy.

I only do this with my absolute favs - I read too much to save everything, even if it's just fics I like in general.

I save pretty much every single fanfiction I read as HTML files. And they have to be perfect files; perfectly coded, in exactly the same format. Every single one of them. I actually get antsy when I think about the fact that not all of the fics I've read are perfectly coded, and I start scratching myself. It's so fucking weird.

I don't save as many fics as I want to because it's so hard to get the coding right (for some reason any browser except IE refuses to copypaste with formatting intact for me, and sometimes I don't feel like firing the slow-ass thing up, even in a tab) and it bugs me when everything isn't where it's supposed to be. I use Fanfiction Downloader and Ao3 when I can, and save web pages to code into documents later.

I wrote myself a program about ten years ago that converts html docs into my preferred format. Everything I read goes through it first.
