Did not read the books, did not see the movies, did not read the graphic novels.

...the artwork is very, very good.
But I do think that it is a legitimate reason to like something. Besides, nobody said that liking goofy things is bad. You may like them in a postmodernist way. Or even seriously. Nothing wrong with that.
...yeah, the artwork is good. *sigh*

(Anonymous) 2013-06-22 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
The art does look very pretty.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-22 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. The story line is still horrible in the graphic novel but the art is amazing. :)

Their hair just melts into each other... I'm trying to decide whether I like the effect or whether it's just distracting now that I can't unsee it.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
the hair is a single organism

(Anonymous) 2013-06-22 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually dislike the graphic novels, not really because of the storyline or or the artwork. The text font is just really cheap looking, and it puts me off. :/

Thank you for mentioning that! I didn't want to be the only one with that problem. ._.;;

(Anonymous) 2013-06-22 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Allegedly, that's because the project organizers/managers trusted the people who did the lineart to do the lettering, and font styles were not their forte.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-22 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The art IS really gorgeous, but the GN is a prime example of how some illustrators can't be cartoonists. Not only is the type/lettering bad, the composition of the word balloons are so WTF.

Just looked it up and... wow. Not only is the font terrible, but the placement of/in the word bubbles makes me cringe, too.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-22 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Of all the version of that story, the GN makes it most palatable, IMO.

I think it helps especially because GN!Bella (and Edward. And Jake) actually has emotions and facial expressions. Amazing what that can do to make a character sympathetic.

... really? Tbh I don't like the artwork that much, all the characters seem to suffer from same face syndrome.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-24 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm not seeing what others are. The art is so-so. Not bad but incredibly bland and stiff.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-22 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel awful for it, but...

...this one image makes me incredibly fucking horny.

What is wrong with me?!

(Anonymous) 2013-06-22 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no interest in reading Twilight in any format, but as far comics/manga goes, I'm very forgiving of the story if the artwork is pretty enough.

TBH I kinda find the artwork distracting, it's very plasticy and stiff.

This is how I felt when I tried to read it. Especially Bella; she looked too unnaturally pretty for an ordinary human.

Honestly, every time I shelve these, all I can think is that the artwork looks crap. Just very artificial "I learned flowy manga-style, but no real story-telling."

I dunno, I have no problem with manga style, but that always struck me as a step away from Christopher Hart.

Good. Then I'm not the only one who immediately thought "These look kind of Chris Hart-y."

[Picture is Bella and Edward on a picture from the Collector's Edition of the Graphic Novel adaptation of "Twilight".]

I hate the original novels. I hate the movies. But I LOVE the graphic novels. What the fuck, self? It's the same damn story. I blame the gorgeous artwork...

Twilight's just the novelization of a shoujo manga that was never (previously) drawn. "An Ordinary High School Girl with low self-esteem is swept into a dangerous romance with a mysterious, brooding Popular Boy. They fall hopelessly in love for no apparent reason, he turns out to be a vampire who lusts for her blood, the world fights to keep them apart, etc etc." Edward already had bishie sparkle, anime hair, and color-changing eyes. A manga/graphic novel format is the only thing that would make sense, tbh.

That artwork is lovely! You can totally love a comic just for the artwork!

Best incarnation, imho

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 08:12 am (UTC)(link)

Seriously, even when the artwork/sequencing falters a bit - like someone else said, Twilight IS a shoujo manga and lots of intense close-ups of pretty, pretty Edward and shimmering expressive eyes full of longing and unshed tears and Tru Wuw... is the perfect medium to tell the Twilight story.
I'd make a cheap shot that "if only it had stayed that way and not become terrible films", but eh. I loved the soundtracks and they were snarky-fun to watch.
