Um, if they're dressed like that how are they not cosplayers?

Maybe they're referring to the people who wear Dave shirts and stuff like that? Like they're only wearing part of the full outfit and to non-readers they look rather normal so it's not 100% cosplay, but if you're follow the comic you can easily be aware of the reference?

I saw several people like that back in college, about one every month or so towards my last year. I did it too every now and again, but with Doctor Who stuff I had lying around in my dresser.

Apparently, there are some people who go around wearing troll make up and normal and/or just plain interesting clothes, rather than "cosplaying" as particular characters, as a fashion thing? I don't know if I'd agree with that distinction given that it is fandom-based, though I'd love to see more creative, costume-y makeup around, even full body stuff! Just not Homestuck. Please god not Homestuck.

This.

Like I could see wearing horns or shirts casually, just to do it, but not full body makeup and the yellow nails and everything.

Also, chances are that a cosplayer who is cosplaying a troll IS a Hamsteak, so I don't know why OP is exempting them from this.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
not the op but like... if it's a con or something where everyone is dressed up, that's one thing. wearing it to like college classes (we have one at my school) is stupid and disruptive

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Disruptive" Wut. If someone is "funny looking" to you, whether by their fashion choices or not, just don't look.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
yeah it's disruptive, sorry.

there's a difference in wearing 'funny clothes' and wearing grey body paint and candy corn horns every day. if you can't see how that would distract students and staff, then you should probably go wash that off your face now before coming back to lab, sorry bro

(Anonymous) 2013-06-24 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
oh get over yourself.

wearing cosplay to school is stupid. you may be recieved a such. but disruptive? hate to go "it's a free country" on you, but it really is. If grey body paint is so offensive to you as to being straight up disruptive that is 100% more your problem than weirdo in the gray make up.

Ummmm considering biphobia and bi erasure is everywhere and mislabelling is a huge deal, I think it's a valid question to bring up you know. Not that I know the show or the character.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
i'm confused. did you comment in the wrong place?

It's too late.

We are everywhere.

It's okay. Maybe they want to avoid you, too.

You probably got tricked by the stealth homestucks though.

[Picture is a photograph of two youngsters in a park. The young man appears to be kissing the top of the head of a young woman. (I say "appears" because the text is covering that part of the picture.) The two of them are wearing headbands with "troll horns" from the webcomic "Homestuck", but are otherwise wearing normal clothes and no make-up.]

Whenever I see people in real life dressed like this (not cosplayers) I avoid them. Not because I don't like interesting dressers - but because I know they're homestuckers. Not here for that.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
My greater concern is that the horns look like candy corn. Maybe they're supposed to - are they candy corn horns?

Too bad we can't meet up and swap a few days/hours of our lives. Just looking at the volumes of Homestuck on my dashboard I realize that it'd take months to catch up on the basics of the story.

That "let me tell you about Homestuck" meme? If I saw a Homestuck cosplayers on my two hour bus ride home, I'd do my best to sit near them and just ask yes, please tell me! Ramble, chat, get excited, go on about it. If you're that dedicated to go out in public in horns, I'll enjoy your fannish energy and enthusiasm while you explain.

Kinda stinks how it never works out that way, doesn't it? =/

I've done it.

Also, you could... go read homestuck?

Also, you could... go read homestuck?

Almost 7000 pages, many of which are flash videos of various lengths (the number and complexity of which, many Homestucks tend to exaggerate) is just a tad intimidating.

Like I said, it'd take months, and that'd be with non-stop reading. I'd like to give it a try, but (and sorry for being "that person") I'm in a little bit of an inflexible position at the moment (PM inbox has more details if you're dead bored and stuff). There's a long list of "to read/watch/listen to" unfortunately. I even missed out on The Hobbit, which just hurt.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
http://www.youtube.com/user/CoLabHQ The Let's Read Homestuck series is a pretty good way to get into the series with greater momentum than simply reading on its own.

Hey, thank you! I mean that, too; the only thing I can really consume at the moment is audio and I've been using MP3toVid to download audio books and stuff like that. This is pretty much perfect.
