I think a lot of people get Gen as in no-pairings confused with "for general audiences" rating. Which, yeah, is annoying.

I think that's definitely what's going on. There's contagion between people who use it to mean 'not shippy' and those who use it to mean 'nothing that would even warrant a PG-13 rating'.

Maybe we should coin a new tag and try to make it happen.

'no foreground-character pairings' and 'no non-canon pairings' might be clunky but helpful; those seem to be the main complaints I've been in this thread.
