Unexpected kicks in the heart

[personal profile] dethtoll 2013-06-22 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So while I was digging up music for today's music thread I came upon that Kentucky Route Zero track and it just made me start choking up super hard, which is weird because a) I don't normally cry at folk music or even get moved by it much at all and 2) I've heard the song before with no effect, so why now all of a sudden?

Ever have that? That weird moment when a song comes on and you're like "why am I even crying?"

Yeah.

I don't really have anything else to say about it though. I just know what you mean. Don't know why it happens except sometimes some things that have happened to you or that you've been thinking about cause you to look at a song again or have a different relationship to it.

If it's the same anon in the poetry thread and that coffee thread, they may be trying a shotgun approach. In which case 4/10 for effort.

Definitely.

Not as many as when I was younger, but every once in awhile I still run across something that just hits the right button for whatever reason.

Nat King Cole's Mona Lisa get's me every time, and I have absolutely no idea why. But I sob.

One time I was listening to the Norwegian version of "Two Worlds, One Family" from Tarzan, and I started bawling like no tomorrow. Probably had something to do with the fact that it was the last day of my first year of college and I was already fairly emotional. But it's not like it's a particularly sad song or anything.

I've heard "Wish you were Here" by Pink Floyd a hundred times but for some reason when I was listening to it a couple of days ago it got to me. The line "did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts" was when I got choked up.

Yeah. For various reasons, like missing someone or someplace and whatnot. Makes it hard to listen to the same song again, too.

Yes.

I tend to be a weeper anyway, and I don't mind when the weeping is deserved, but I also cry at every sacchrine thing ever LOL. I get especially annoyed with myself when some country song like "Holes in the Floor of Heaven" makes me tear up. IT IS A HORRIBLE SONG LOL.

Yessss. There's this live version of a song that makes me bawl for absolutely no reason at all, I have no idea why it makes me cry. (This coming from someone who gets blasted regularly by people for being ~coldhearted~ because I don't cry at the drop of a hat.)

"Honor for All" from Dishonored.

I have it on my phone but I never listen to it in public because I have the weirdest visceral reaction to it. I start shaking and crying and it's almost literally gut-wrenching. And I have no frickin' idea why.

All the time.

The music I generally listen to is happy upbeat JPop. I've started to sob during a lot of music I listen to, for no apparent reason. Two songs by AKB48, Party ga Hajimaru yo and Aitakatta, are really cute happy songs, but for some reason they often move me to tears.
