Every morning is a struggle,
every reflection of you a hurtful reminder,
that I do not have the courage to leave you

Laughter and painful tugging followed me into my youth,
my smile painted and fragile as I wiped the tears that lined
My cheeks.

I am older now; stronger and fiercer and wiser.
I have seen death, I have watched spirits die.
And I wonder why I still look in the mirror and see you
And cry.
