My main fandom isn't particularly active anymore. I'd like to join a new fandom, one that is more active, but I have trouble finding one. Most of the things I like don't have fandoms, or are unsuitable for my fandom needs. Most of the popular things that have large fandoms aren't to my tastes. I'm hoping someone here can suggest a few fandoms I could check out.

I don't like Supernatural, Doctor Who and most of the other currently popular TV shows, because I don't find the main actors attractive. For me, a TV show needs at least one character I can drool over or I'm just not interested. Part of the problem is that I've always preferred pretty men over handsome men, and that has only gotten more pronounced after I got into a few Asian fandoms. I still like the occasional western actor, like Johnny Depp, but mostly, white men don't do anything for me anymore. Still into J-pop, can't seem to get into K-pop. I gave up on Bollywood movies because I couldn't stomach the sexism and racism anymore. Loved the singing and dancing and long movies. Not that any of that would be particularly useful for a fandom though - never felt like writing fic for any Bollywood movie.

I don't like the type of cartoons that has deliberately ugly art, like Spongebob. Cartoons for me need to be pretty. Same about anime - I could never get into Naruto because I found the art so ugly. I used to like Sailor Moon back in the day, as well as a few other anime (Weiß Kreuz, Gundam Wing, that anime about the girl who played volleyball, one soccer anime, Robin Hood, Zorro, and some some I've forgotten the names, it's been so long), but those have all ended years ago. For cartoons, I used to like Gargoyles and Mighty Ducks. I do like My little Pony, but here we come to my next problem.

My main fandom activity is writing fanfic - specifically, porn. I write comedy occasionally, and rarely other genres on request. But 90% is porn. Therefore, fandoms like My Little Pony are not suitable for me, because I'm really not into pony porn. That excludes Pokemon as well, one of the other "popular" things I like.

I haven't yet been into any book based fandoms. I read a few Harry Potter fics back in the day, but that's pretty much it. Partly because the books I like don't have large fandoms (or any), partly I think because fic for book based fandoms is so much harder to get right - since it always compares to the original author's style. If it matters, authors I like are Dorothy Sayers, Dan Abnett, Roger Zelazny and Tanya Huff, to name a few.

I have found that I like stuff with a lot of singing lately (which was what got me into My little Pony), but I dislike a lot of popular music. Most of the music I listen to I only got to like after watching the artist perform it - so I don't really like the music for itself, I think. Not 100% sure about that.

I haven't been much into any games other than Final Fantasy 7 & 8, and those fandoms are either dead or scary.

As far as shipping and such things go, I do everything from het to slash to femslash to orgy, so that's not really a concern. I'm fine with real people fic too, to a degree.

I would prefer a fandom that is active in places other than tumblr - I don't really like tumblr, and I prefer my fandom activity to be mostly text based - fic, meta, whatever, as long as it's words. Since LJ is dying, active communities here on DW or forums somewhere would be perfect.

TL;DR version: I need a new fandom. Please suggest some. I like pretty stuff in canon and wordy stuff in fandom. Must be pornable (no animals or children as main characters).

No, but explaining what kinds of plotty things I like would have taken about five times longer. And when the main actors are unattractive enough to put you off, it doesn't matter how good the show itself is, because you can't keep watching long enough to find out.

Eh, when we're talking about a visual medium, whether or not you like what it looks like is a pretty important factor.

Jdramas, especially if you like to write. Most shows don't have much English-language fic.

personally - i'm enjoying Hannibal right now, and Hugh Dancy is pretty, and so is the set design.

but idk if that counts as one of the popular fandoms now. it's kind of exploded on tumblr. and it's a dark show with some gore, so that may not be to everyone's taste. (heh).

Have you tried out Avatar: the Last Airbender/The Legend of Korra? IMHO, the former's the better series, but their sort of the same thing/world, the latter is still going on, the characters are almost all in their late teens/adults, etc. The fandom's sort of inactive right now, but it'll flare up once the new season starts (whenever that'll be this year). I tend to hang out on ontd_lok, but there are probably a bunch of other comms as well.

As for pretty things with singing, there's the more cult-y Phantom of the Opera and Labyrinth fandoms. TBH, they're rather small and I'm not even sure what the state of the fandoms are other than the fic I read, but at least with that they're still steadily kicking away. I've been sort of lumping them together in my head ever since I got into the Roommates/Girls Next Door comics years ago.

Sorry I can't help you more. I'm primarily in the Doctor Who and ATLA/LOK of fandoms with everything else taking a backseat (or happening on tumblr). I was in Once Upon a Time fandom, but that pretty much got driven into the ground with the mess that was Season Two. I was in Stargate fandom, but that died...

I second the ATLA/LOK idea, because the art is beautiful and the fic is pretty amazing. Not always sure about the fandom *community*, but you didn't specify.

My other idea, is, of course, going to be my home fandom. And before you sneer at me, just listen: it fits pretty much everything you described- pretty non-white boys and girls, very porn-friendly fic writing community, quite active fandom on DW/LJ and AO3, not so much on tumblr, AND the bonus is that it's a quick show to watch and obsorbe so you can easily get into the meta and fic side of things.

Is Power Rangers still a thing? I know I liked a Japanese version of Power Rangers, Magi Rangers, but I couldn't find a fandom for that (and all the main characters in Magi Rangers were related, which limited shipping choices). I'll take a look, thank you!

Power Rangers is very much still a thing! Especially in the newer seasons, like Samurai and Megaforce. AND if you are into watching subs, Super Sentai (which is what Magi Rangers is a part of) has a HUGE variety to choose from as well. Give me a message if you think you're interested, I'll see if I can't point you towards some sites and good fic.

Well...Idk how much you like her, but if you do Mercedes Lackey does have something of a fic writing fandom on some sites. I'm not really in the fandom anymore, so I can't speak for where they actually are now [FF.net should still have some though] and I know it's usually very, very well received porn and all.

It's kind of ten years too late for that, but thanks! I used to read Mercedes Lackey as a teen.
