The Book of Mormon musical was making fun of Mormonism... so that doesn't really fit in the same category as Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

But it's not really. I've seen a few interviews with the writers and they always talk about how they really wanted to approach it with respect as well as humor, and that it can be seen as more a celebration of absurdity. They also talk about how a lot of Mormons actually really enjoy the show and get a kick out of it and how accurate some jokes are.

Some Mormons like it, some find it really offensive. Either way it's clearly making fun of Mormonism (whether it's respectful or not is debatable... just because they say it's supposed to be respectful doesn't mean everyone will find it that way), unlike the movies you compared it to, which are made for Christians, by Christians, and directly based on Bible stories.

This is a closer Mormon equivalent to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Coat than the Book of Mormon musical: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49uoGes3e7I
