OMG, this thread. Once everyone's determined the TRUE, CORRECT AND PROPER MEANING OF GEN, perhaps we can move on to tackle the equally mysterious word "drabble". That'll be a whole nother bucket of wank right there.

I agree with you; therefore, you are wise. :)

But that won't stop legions of people from rising up to tell us that the meaning of words change and drabble now means something maybe 100-ish, or maybe 1000-ish, give or take another 500 words.

Yeah. People have been playing fast and loose with the definition of that one for the whole nine years I've been in fandom. I can't help it, though; I'm a purist.

When I was new to fandom I had no idea what "drabble" actually meant. I saw people using it as "100 word" fic, I saw people using it for "short ficlet" (~100-1000 words), and I saw people just throwing it around in ways I'm not entirely sure what they were trying to do.

To this day I refuse to use it because I don't want to bother with having to figure out what. the. hell. it actually means.
