I do just deal with it, but if there's a topic discussing it, I'm going to state my point of view on the matter. Why the hell wouldn't I? It's not like I send messages to authors complaining about them incorrectly tagging their fics or whatever. They can do whatever they hell they want, and I can continue to prefer that things be categorised in a different way.

Shit, I never even mentioned Ao3, I was just responding to the many people in this post who have claimed that there's no difference between background canon and non-canon pairings in gen fic.

As for "established relationship", in my experience that's still going to involve some background explanation if it's well written. Some pairings need more explanation than others, obviously, but if it's non-canon there's going to need to be SOME, or it'll be OOC imo.
