I think people should make an exception for exceptionally long/plotty fics. It's really quite possible for a story that has a hell of a lot going on to need an indication of "Yeah, but this isn't just about the pairing." It's a pain in the ass navigating fandom's way of looking at a fic that's shippy but also loaded with other stuff, cause it gets as hard to please the shippers as it is to please the gen fans. But like, if a slash fan can scroll past the slash pairings they don't like, I don't see why a gen fan can't scroll past a gen-listed fic that has pairings listed.

Side note: I actually use "multi" to simply mean "more than one of the above" (like if I were to have F/M selected and there's more than one F/M pairing in the fic).
