I am not sure a character from 19th century French literature can qualify as a husbando.

I could have written it more clearly. It isn't the fact that Aramis is a girl what bothers me. It is more that, as another anon says in other comment, 'He was, in the books, the prettiest and the most elegant'.

So, obviously it means the character is a girl, right? Well, excuse me while I facepalm.

And then they make her story all about the man she lost.

I used to write a small series where D'Artagnan was secretly a girl but no one suspected it because they read them as masculine.
