Some adaptations have gone the route of his avenging dead relatives (it's been too long since I've read it, I can't remember if his father's murder was original or from the adaptations), and he's hotheaded enough to get into that kind of trouble.
Or Athos, at a push. He's not much closer than Aramis, but the thing with Milady could have been worked around to that.
