(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)the one with God is the fifth I think?
When I say dated, I mean they look of their time. Like TNG looks 80s, early 90s, it just has that look and feels very earnest and cheesy. I don't mean the future seems dated! I think sci fi always has that risk, but it doesn't matter if the writing etc is great, or if it's a classic by virtue of being original and maybe saying something about it's time, like say The Day The Earth Stood Still, or The Invasion of The Body Snatchers. When you've got Deanna Troi saying "I feel great pain" well I just can't argue for the writing or the acting. Kirk hamming it up with the tribbles, sort of still manages to work though.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-23 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)I haven't seen that much of Voyager, but DS9 doesn't seem that dated to me. Visually, it's helped a lot by the fact that the station itself is alien in origin, so any inconsistencies can be partially excused. Writing wise, it's possibly more appropriate now that it was in the 90s, given the questions it asks about, you know, terrorism and freedom fighters and religious wars and imperialism and the abuses of power and having to get your hands dirty ...
