I'm six episodes from being done and have been that way for about a month, that's how underwhelming the season is to me. Sorry, I didn't read the rest of your secrets because, underwhelmedness aside, I'm still trying to avoid spoilers.

To be honest that's what I've been doing too; I like some of the new season just fine, but for some reason I have zero motivation to finish it.

I haven't tried to watch it yet, but from what I've read, it sounds like they went waaaaaay too artsy and/or experimental with it. Like, you get the same situation from different points of view in completely separate episodes, and some things you have to watch out of order to get it, and some things you have to watch backwards to get it, and...it just sounds a little too convoluted for anyone's good.

I will be honest and say it's a lot to take in the first time you watch through because certain information you only get part of the story and have to wait for more episodes to get all the puzzle pieces. But once I completed the season I had a real appreciation for the way they did it, and I actually think it was really well done.

I enjoyed it a lot more on second watch through because I could just sit back and see what I missed the first time around. I know for some people watching a series multiple times feels like asking a lot, but this is Arrested Development we're talking about, and you never catch everything the first time around.

personally, i started seeing some funny parts starting from the second episode (the first was awful and made me sad, on rewatch though it was awesome) so it wasn't as hard to get through as for those who expected brilliance the first time around, who hated it until episode 9, who forgot that you HAVE to watch AD at least a few times to fully appreciate it etc. if anything, this new season is so chock full of references and subtly hidden old jokes that every time you go online to read about the show, you find out about something new (lucille 2's shape on the stairs, lucille's prison number, certain copyrighted mascots and props being in the background of shops with clever names...)

so... yeah exactly. AD is NOT the show where you can complain that, ugh, you have to watch again to find it funny or to understand. I'm rewatching the first three seasons for the 10th time or so, probably, and I'm STILL finding new jokes.

There ARE some parts where the skipping around in time is pretty confusing, but for the *most part* that didn't bother me too much. But in general, I feel like it did go way to far in almost every other respect.

I'm stopped in about the same place. It just doesn't feel like the same show even a little, anymore.

spoilers for Arrested Development's newest season?

Not secret: The ending of the new season left me very underwhelmed. So many loose plot ends in case they never get renewed or get a movie. I mean, come on!

Secret: I'm actually only fuming because we don't really know what happened afterwards with Gob and Tony Wonder. Because I really, really want to know if this is a completely-bizarre-but-somehow-still-earnest-instance-of-canon-male/male-relationship I see, or just a fallacyyyy???

I'm overanalyzing a couple of lines ("What they felt was friendship" vs "My feelings were real") and I wanted confirmation, dammit!

While watching the new season I was like "the gay potential is going to be drive fandom nuts" and I was right

I was with you until the shipping bullshit.

I'm scared to watch Season 4, I like how it ended in 3 but at the same time, I love Portia de Rossi dammit!

I felt like the writing started slipping around season three and they haven't really gotten any better. Gob's episodes were excellent though and although I'm pretty certain we were supposed to see he and Tony as becoming their masks, I'm also afraid it was just baiting.

Relax, they left it that way because they want a movie to continue it. Or possibly another season.

Tony/Gob for life, though!
