If you are gonna have medieval fantasy, you need you some FUCKING AND BLOOD. BUCKETS OF BLOOD. BUCKETS OF FUCK ALSO!

(Anonymous) 2013-06-24 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
And no one ever thinks of the bubonic plague. It's starting to feel left out.

FANTASY MEDIEVAL, NOT MEDIEVAL!

Plagues are replaced by dragons and demons.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-24 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
But still with the lack of bathing, right? It's just not medieval anything if there's too much soap.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-25 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
*cough* People washed, they just didn't do regular full-body immersions.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-25 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
It was the 17th and 18th centuries who didn't believe in washing. Why do you think the perfume industry was so important in those days?

Your enthusiasm reminds me of this comic:

For some reason I despise GoT partly because of the amount of nudity and sex but I adore Oglaf.

Well, Oglaf's sex is funny!

(Anonymous) 2013-06-24 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
The loss of boobs and violence, I could probably get over. But unless they have an equivalent to Tyrion Lannister, Snarker of Badass, and Princess Fuck-You-With-DRAGONFIRE, I can't invest.

They don't.

I wholeheartedly recommend Flesh+Blood!

Well, aside from sex, I just don't think Pillar of the Earth in in any way as good, or complex as GoT, and I found the characters lacking. I mean, it's decent enough on it's own, but if you're going to compare, it's going to fall flat.

Man I actually need to watch this; I enjoyed the book a lot, but I haven't watched the series yet.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-25 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I loved it but could never get into GoT. Everyone I know loves GoT and hated PotE. It made me think that anyone who likes GoT would hate PotE but people who are kinda meh about GoT stand a chance to really enjoy PotE.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-25 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
I loved both, and I don't understand why people would even compare the two. Yes, they both center around political intrigue, but are completely different in both subject matter and, even more importantly, scope.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-25 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
I can't really recommend it tbh... the series just doesn't have time to really cover everything the book covers so a lot of the plot is condensed and much of the subtlety is lost.

[Picture is the cast from the TV miniseries "Pillars of the Earth".]

Watched it because a friend said it was like Game Of Thrones only with less gratuitous nudity and sex scenes. Realized that I actually kind of miss the nudity and sex scenes.

Secret because: Now I feel like a pervert.

Pillars of the Earth was simultaneously a bore and a mess.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-25 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Liking to see lack of clothes and sexual pleasure makes one a pervert? Lol, social mores.
