Caffeine addiction is real, and long-term sleep deprivation can cause problems -- but neither of those issues was portrayed in the episode in question. It was cheap and unrealistic in that it both failed to tackle what would actually have been going on and it equated one problem (or possibly two problems) with an altogether different one.

It's also a 30-minute show -- which means an absolute max of 25 minutes show-time. Did you really expect Saved by the Bell to pull out a multi-episode arc about Jessie's drug habit? It's not that kind of show.

Naaah. I just think they shouldn't have done it at all, because it's a failure any way you slice it.

For teens and adults? Sure. For the 9-10 year olds watching? Not likely. (And let's be real, the show may feature high school kids, but it's not a show built for high-schoolers.)
