(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 03:22 am (UTC)(link)(Actually, if everyone who hates getting comments did this, it would be a big favor to the rest of us who like getting comments. 'Cause that would get around the whole "I'd leave appreciative feedback more often but I hear some people hate it!!!!" dilemma ;-)

(Anonymous) 2013-06-26 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)Personally I never leave comments because I am afraid of offending the author (by not getting the most interesting/delicate points they were making and just crushing their hopes with a stupid, cliched, fits-all thing like 'I love this story').
And authors beg for reviews are often even worse, imagining offense at the least little thing one says or doesn't say. This is yet another reason I don't visit fanfiction.net where too many authors seem to be excitable teenagers who inform their readers at length about how insulted they were by whatever recent comment got up their nose. This happens everywhere of course, but it is much more frequent on FFN.
After it happened to me a couple of times, I stopped entirely. Which is why I love the kudos function on AO3: it expresses all the good karma I wish to send, without any risk of irritating the author inadvertently.
Mind you, I saw a fandom secret a few weeks ago where an AO3 author was complaining about readers who leave kudos without leaving a comment.... some people you just can't please! But this latest is why I now leave anonymous kudos instead of logging in, just in case.
