Yeah, no kidding. None of the character designs are engaging or interesting, nor actually demonstrate that they're, y'know, from a fantasy game.

Kinda like how FF12 had many non-human races who were very well done and even had their own cultures, but a party full of pretty humans and a bunny lady. Can't have any ugly lizard people in the party, no sir!
