I get how you might get that impression if English isn't your first language. The wordplay's riffing off of a(n exaggeraged version of) a certain subset of accents in which a hard 'th' commonly sounds more like a 'd', so if you've never even heard that accent spoken (either naturally or as parody), the joke loses a lot of its context. Especially if you've only seen it written.
