One of my friends is just so bloody *pretentious* about fandom. She talks about how Archive Of Our Own tags represent a ~specific fandom culture and how not letting people tag for silly things is ~oppressing them and how fannish people deserve more *rights* and *respects* from creators, and maybe even political recognition... blah blah blah. It's popping up on my dash all the *time* now, and I'm getting quite sick of it. She even drags it up in comments if the topic is slightly related to fandom. Blah.

The rest is typical over-entitled fan-whinging.
But that...that's a new kind of loony.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-27 01:02 am (UTC)(link)That would be fun to watch, from another continent of course, but still, maybe we can convince Australia to give it a whirl.

It's like learning a different language (especially when I try to introduce my mom to a certain fan-theory or prevailing trend).

(Anonymous) 2013-06-27 02:07 am (UTC)(link)I actually find fan studies fascinating (not necessarily pretentious?) but this sounds like it's blended with SJ culture and that is terrifying 0_0
