I think, with things like this, people are complaining less about the setup, and more about just how frequently and often and repeatedly it has been used in sitcoms.

I like the setup and I kind of agree with your feelings on it, but the fact that it's been used so much, or was used so much at one point, is kind of offputting and strange (and also makes it a pretty tired dynamic from a storytelling and comedy point of view).
