OP

I just want to clarify that I understand why it's a double standard that men can be overweight on TV and women can't, and I think that sucks. My secret was about the face that when I hear people talk about this trope, the often tag on the end 'because who would want a fat husband?', or 'she could do so much better'. And that's the part of the discussion I don't relate to.

It sounds like they're the ones missing the point. You don't have to go telling everyone your kink if you don't want to but for what it's worth you have nothing to be ashamed of here.

You know what I have a problem with? Not that you would love to have an overweight husband, but that you added that you want to look attractive next to him. That's a very shitty attitude.

It reminds me a bit of the people who wish for a partner who isn't deemed attractive just because they hope such a partner would never be able to cheat on them or get "stolen away".

There's nothing wrong with liking big people but they don't exist to boost your confidence.

I never said I am otherwise unattracted to overweight men, or in any way devalue them as partners - the opposite is true. I can see how you would be confused by the wording of my secret though. Feeling small and attractive (and feminine) in comparison to my partner is about the size difference, rather than about how people might compare his looks to mine.

I didn't read it as a fat = unattractive thing. Our culture equates "feminine" with "small and petite," so having a larger male partner could easily make a woman feel more feminine WHILE thinking that said partner is attractive.

My husband is overweight and I am thin. When I hear people say those things it irks me to no end.
