Did he change at all, though?

Sometimes I feel like Jon is the only character you could transport from the start of the book to where he is now (in the show, not so much the books) without gaining or losing anything in the trade.

Well, he starts off whiny and bratty but ends up more badass by the fifth book. But he really does have to be one of the flattest POV characters in the series. Show!Jon is so bland and static that I can't even imagine Lord Commander Snow ever being pulled off well when the time comes. How on earth did Kit ever get that part?

a flat character is not the same thing as a static character. Stop spreading the confusion.

A well rounded character can still be static. Happens often with secondary characters, especially mentors.
