That's one of the more interesting things about the movie; especially when you have the scene where they're wondering "oh, where is The Mandarin?" and he's actually still in Florida, and they're shocked. It's actually a good critique of the American mindset. I may have liked it more than IM1 because of this commentary.

I thought the Mandarin storyline was delightfully clever and meta but the problem it made for the movie was that after he was revealed, there was no sense of menace left in the film for me. Killian? That Syndrome-wannabe? Pffft.
