Kind of spoilery

Basically, this kind of game normally has two or more endings, but since Joel has an actual personality, they only give you one based on what he'd actually do. It doesn't necessarily correspond with what the player might want to do.

ENDING SPOILERS AHOY!

Not quite a bioshock infinite, or at least it doesn't go into mind screw territory, but it certainly leaves some questions about the protagonist by the end.

Now I'm going to spoil the ending for anyone that hasn't played it yet or isn't planning to play it so this secret will make more sense, so don't read any further if you want it to be a suprise

SPOILERS AHEAD

ok I warned you, heres the end of the game, basically you find out Ellie (who is immune to the fungus zombie plague) has a mutated form of the fungus throughout her brain, which is what makes her immune (at least so far, the end kind of implies theres always a chance she will go crazy in the end anyway). When her and Joel finally meet up with the leader of the rebel group that is looking for a cure to the zombie plague they essentially separate the two of them while they are unconscious and prepare to operate on Ellie to remove the benign fungus in her brain, the operation will, of course, kill her. Joel basically flips out at this point and shoots up the entire militia occupied hospital in an effort to rescue Ellie. He ends up brutally mudering the operating doctor, as well as the militia leader who acted as Ellie's caretaker for years after her mother's death, and then lies to Ellie about the group after she wakes up in a car driving out of Salt Lake City. It's never made clear whether Ellie knows or suspects what happens at the hospital, and its left vague over how much of a chance Ellie's infection had of providing a vaccine, so we don't really know how much Joel has doomed humanity in the end.

Definitely not a Bioshock Infinite.
