Well a lot of ads for movies look like crap, at least to me, and it doesn't stop people from seeing the movies.

The overall point is not about Rise of the Guardians, it was just one example that came to mind. It's more about how animation companies do want to make movies differently, but they run the risk of losing a lot of money (which can in turn, get a lot of people fired) when they take those chances.

I personally wish American audiences would get past this "animation is for kids/must be slapstick" attitude and realize animation is just another medium for storytelling. We can do almost ANYTHING with animation and yet we manage to severely limit it year after year.
