The fact that there's been quite a few Cyborg 009 secrets lately makes me really glad! On the other hand, this secret doesn't exactly inspire me to finally getting around to watching the new movie, heh.

Reasons that other people don't like the new RE:Cyborg movie, and valid ones:

- Jet/002's redesign being completely different from his usual incarnation (that is, they made him a generic blond guy instead of trying to make his usual appearance more realistic).
- Francoise/003 was used as blatant fanservice.
- The plot was faux-Evangelion weird spiritual stuff.
- Plot points abruptly brought up and dropped without explanation.
- GB/007 and Pyunma/008 fridged right off the bat.
- Art style chucking everyone straight in the uncanny valley.
- Weird characterization issues out the wazoo.

Dumb butthurt whiny baby reason **I** don't like the movie:

The sense of friendship and camaraderie present in all other series is gone. The RE:009 cyborgs treat each other like strangers, or acquaintances. They don't trust each other. The reasons why were clearly explained in the movie, but it just felt wrong to me. Literally upsetting. Waaaah.

Pretty much ALL my reasons (other than the disappearance of GB and Pyunma. WTF?! Although yay for Pyunma looking like a proper human!) stem from Jet.

Including your "butthurt" reason. Yeah, Jet had issues. Mostly because he acted like the angry teenager he was before they put him in a tube for a couple of decades. He's also one of my favorite anime characters of all time. I don't mind the design change, but the completely scrapped characterization HURTS me. Untrusting, bitter man with a chip on his shoulder basically allowing a governmental agency to do what they want with him is NOT Jet, and makes me wonder what the NSA did to him.

Jet and Gilmore were really the only ones that were completely lost to the aether personality-wise (Gilmore's treatment of Joe was confusing as hell). To some extent Francoise, but she hasn't really been well-served there in any incarnation.

At least 004 was intact. The way he interacted with both Pyunma and 006 was quite in keeping with his old characterization. Him being a giant plot-dump was somewhat boring Although the voice kept certain parts of me interested. The fight scene with 004 and 006 was a throwback to old, with them obviously implicitly trusting each other's abilities to at least buy time, if not get them through the fight.

makes me wonder what the NSA did to him.

I theorize that all those equipment changes to his torso are their doing, and that he may not have been entirely happy with being a guinea pig ("if you want to fly, you let us do this").

I haven't seen the movie, but the more I hear about it, the more I'm starting to think I'm not going to want to. Jet's redesign I could've let slide, disappointing as it is, but the whole reason I like Cyborg 009 is the way they all grow on each other. If that's not there, and nor are Pyunma and GB, who happen to be my favourites (along with Chang, but half the fun comes from his interaction with GB), then ehhh.

I second everything you said!
And I'd also say that the "Dumb butthurt whiny baby reason" is actually the *biggest* issue in the movie. It's not a team movie if there's no sense of teamwork, and the best thing about Cyborg 009 is the sense of nakamaship and camaraderie!

That aside, so happy there's more 009 secrets and seeing more activity for this fandom~
