Word. I fucking love Hugh Dancy's Will Graham, but Petersen was terrific and matched the Will I saw in the book very closely. He (just as a person, regardless of the role he plays) has a stillness and a quietly radiant intelligence that was perfect for the character. I thought Edward Norton was pretty weak.

I also didn't like Ralph Fiennes as Francis Dolarhyde, mainly because he lacked the huge imposing physique that is a major part of Dolarhyde's character. His performance was fine, he just wasn't physically intimidating enough.

Norton, though - you're alone on that one. seriously.

Speak for yourself; Norton as Will is the only role I liked him in. His Will was far more believable and made more sense as a character than Dancy's, even if Dancy has a better range and nicer to look at.

Agreed. Norton had an incredibly weak performance in Red Dragon. He seemed to be almost the antithesis of Will Graham. Will Graham is someone who IS incredibly mentally disturbed, and I believe that Petersen captured that far better and Dancy is doing a fine job of it as well. Norton's portrayal seemed too squeaky clean and well put together. You couldn't sense that there was anything wrong with him, while with Petersen, his speeches to himself pretty much clued you in that there was something off with him.

I love both versions. And Fiennes was one fine murderer, I'm curious how NBC's Dolarhyde will turn out.

Okay?
Hannibal fandom and Fannibals (god I hate that term) are pretty chill in general if that's your concern? (One of the nicest fandoms I've been in, and that includes the tumblr part of the fandom.)
I haven't really seen anyone get upset about preferring one actor to another.

[Picture is a "rage comic", a simple comic that can be easily editted to make one scenario apply to different topics. This one shows a young man taunting a group with his words and then running away once the group becomes enraged. The secret maker marked the secret with the fandoms "Hannibal" and "Red Dragon". The words of the text are written as the dialogue of the comic, except for the last line.]

Hey, Fannibals! Ed Norton and Anthony Hopkins are better.

(I honestly believe this though.)

Cox and Petersen, tbh.

late, but I think Hopkins is better but Norton is not. Granted, these versions of Will Graham are wildly different. But even so, I think Hugh Dancy just swept Ed Norton's performance completely away

I agree. I don't watch this current incarnation because I have never been able to stand the character of Will Graham. Such a whiny pain in the ass. Edward Norton's Graham was the only time I've been able to stand that character on film.
