He's not an asshole because he quit his job - he's an asshole because he did it abruptly enough that it was extremely disruptive to everyone else working on the show.

His stated reasons for leaving the show imply that it had been building for a while, so I don't see why he couldn't have given more notice before he stopped coming to work.
