Yeah, and it felt weird to because I don't think they ever gave a good reason why they did it. Like, is there only a limited supply of magic or something?

Hell, I think I remember an episode where Alex makes a mannequin come to life to pretend to be her date and when the mannequin started feelings emotions due to the spell she made it into a mannequin again. Twice, I think actually, with another mannequin. It always felt off to me, even as a kid, because it seemed like she was effectively killing someone but it's never really brought up.

Yeah, i don't get the whole 'only one gets to have it' thing, either. Just seems like basically, the writers didn't know what to do otherwise to make the kids snarky with each other. Or something.
