He's a bully. That's my main problem. He and Kate (or Ziva) never bother me because they give as good as they get. But with McGee in the early years, or Dorneget now, he's actively pursuing a weaker, less confident person with the intent of making him unhappy. That makes my skin crawl. (And I don't even like either of them.)

I can't hate the character because he's enjoyable to watch when he's not in those situations - I love him with Gibbs, Abby, Ducky, Kate, and when he's shown to be a competent investigator in the field - but if he were a real person I could never overlook the cruel streak.
