I agree, both about Hannibal and Fuller. Hannibal -- like Will Graham said in the show when he described the copycat as a baby left for dead -- is a twisted, stunted thing that is utterly incapable of true love or connection to another human being. If he's attached to Will and cares for Will, it is by his own twisted and stunted version of attachment and care, one that does not resemble attachment and care in the rest of humanity.

It makes for a great story, and please Fuller, let it continue, but it makes me cringe when people take his words to mean the Hannibal, like, LOVE loves Will Graham. He doesn't because he can't.

Which is fine! I absolutely adore the mess that is Hannibal and Will's relationship (such as it is) and can't wait to see where it goes. It just bugs me when people don't see it as the mess that it is.

Beautifully said anon.

I agree 100%!

(Was trying to explain Hannibal and Will's relationship to a non-fan a few weeks ago and failed utterly. Couldn't quite put it into words but all I could think was, "He cares for Will as much as he's capable, but since he's Hannibal that isn't much and that care is expressed in the most fucked up way possible."

SA: Yes! It's like....his heart is 1/10 the size of a normal human heart, so even if he loves Will to his full capacity, it's only 1/10th the love of a normal human being. And it comes out all wrong.

Or something.

Makes perfect sense to me!

Ah, so Hannibal is the Grinch! Headcanon accepted :D

SA Except his heart will never grow three sizes, because that would be weird. He would eat three hearts instead >:D

Completely off-topic, but this is the biggest version of that gif I have ever seen, so now I know it's the lovely Paget Brewster applauding and I will save it to my computer now.

So that's who it is. I was actually wondering and it was starting to bug me. THE MORE YOU KNOW.

Thanks!

(And I wish the gif was bigger! This is pathetically small by my standards; IDK why anyone would make an even smaller version.)

Mads Mikkelsen: "Lecter is a man of opportunity, and he sees opportunities everywhere. Every day is a new day, and every day is a chance for something beautiful to happen. When he sees Will, he recognizes himself to a degree. [Hannibal] has empathy, but [he] uses it as a tool; Will has empathy, but he doesn’t know what to do with it. Lecter sees an opportunity to open this man’s eyes and see his full potential realized. And he also sees the opportunity for a friend, which is probably not what he’s had too many of. Even though Hannibal is the puppeteer, he really loves Will."
