And honestly, I think it would be better IF people knew. Then they could learn to defend themselves. Imagine a world where demon tattoos and necklaces were the norm.

Imagine the death toll during the transition. People killing each other because they think they're possessed/shapshifter/whatever (or lying and saying that they thought it was a monster to cover up regular murder).

The Winchesters don't even tell this shit to people who already know. Take Meg's latest host. Meg smoked out of her in the first episode she appeared in, leaving the host alone with the Winchesters...and later we see Meg wearing the same woman again.

Seriously, keep a bunch of tattoo stencils on hand to give people so this doesn't happen to them again.
